Privacy Policy

Play as a guest and everything stays on your device. Create an optional account and we store only what's needed to back up your progress. We never sell your data.

Overview

Bottle Cap Trivia, also shown in the app as Cheers ("the App", "we", "us"), is a trivia game for iOS. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles and why.

The short version: you can play as a guest and nothing leaves your phone. If you choose to create a free account, we store only what's needed to run it and back up your progress. We never sell your data, show ads or track you.

Playing as a Guest

When you first open the App we ask for your first name, your state or territory, and confirmation that you're 18 or over. As a guest, this and all your game data (stats, XP, rank and round history) is stored only on your device. It is never sent to us, and it's removed when you uninstall the App.

Creating an Account (Optional)

A free account backs up your progress so you can restore it on a new phone. If you create one, we collect and store:

  • Username and password. You log in with these. Your password is stored securely hashed; we can never see it.
  • Email address or mobile number, whichever you choose. It is used only to send you a 6-digit code to verify your account and to reset your password. We don't send marketing, and it's never shown to other players.
  • Profile details: your first name, state or territory, and your 18+ confirmation.
  • Gameplay data: your stats, XP, rank, and a history of the rounds you play (mode, score and date).

We use this information only to run your account and sync your progress. It is not used for advertising or profiling, and it is not sold or shared with anyone for their own purposes.

Where Your Data Is Stored

We use a small number of service providers to run accounts. They process data only on our behalf:

  • Supabase hosts accounts and game data. Data is stored in Sydney, Australia.
  • Resend delivers verification and password-reset emails.
  • MobileMessage (Australia) delivers verification and password-reset text messages.
  • Expo delivers app updates. See Expo's Privacy Policy.

Connections between the App and these services are encrypted.

No Ads, Analytics or Tracking

The App contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no tracking across other apps or websites. The App is free and has no in-app purchases.

Keeping and Deleting Your Data

  • You can delete your account at any time in the App under Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile, stats and round history from our servers.
  • If a sign-up is never verified, it is automatically deleted within a day.
  • Signing out removes your account data from the device.
  • You can also email us to access, correct or delete your data, and we'll respond within 30 days.

Age Requirement

The App is intended for adults aged 18 and over, and you must confirm you are 18+ to play. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the App changes. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make a significant change to how we handle personal information, we'll let you know in the App.
